6 things to consider when choosing a garden fence

Have you finally made a decision to replace your garden fence? Well keep in mind that failing to take some time to plan your fencing project can result in disappointment.

We have some helpful tips you can take into consideration and feel confident that you have considered all aspects of your fencing installation to make sure you are fully prepared, making the process run smoothly and enjoyably!

1. What type of fence would you like to install?

When making this decision you need to take into account what the purpose of your fence is.

Is it for aesthetic reasons to make your property look more desirable? Is it  for safety reasons for your family and pets? What height would you desire for your fence, how much privacy do you need?

These are the first points to tackle before moving onto the type of materials that will be best suited to achieve your goals.

2. What fencing material will you choose?

There are various styles and options when it comes to fencing;

Solid fence panels

This will be a good option for you if you are wanting privacy in particular. There are no gaps which makes blocking off the outside world very easy. The materials are strong and sturdy making it aesthetically pleasing on the eye.

Semi-solid fence panels

Semi-solid wooden fencing will allow more light to pass through the gaps in the fence. It will still give you a level of security but a bit less privacy so you are still able to have conversations with your neighbours.

Composite fencing

This option is good if you are wanting a more greener eco-friendly option. Composite fencing is usually made from 96-99% of recycled materials. This type of fencing is durable, very low maintenance and long lasting as well as moisture resistant.

3. What is your style?

When it comes to garden fencing there are so many options available.

Things to consider are what sort of colour will match your garden? Are you into the more modern greys and darker colours or more traditional reds and browns? Think about what sort of colours may contrast with your plants and suit your property.

Think also about vertical or horizontal panels and if you require any sort of trellis along the top of it to add that little bit of extra height and dimension.

4. Are there any restrictions?

It is important to do your research before you even begin to build your fence. Check for any land boundaries and restrictions and make sure you do your research. Check with your local regulatory office so you know where you stand.

Also involve your neighbours and let them know your thoughts and ideas and if there will be any disruptions for them.

5. Think about your budget

Consider your budget and how much maintenance you are willing to spend on your fence. Without proper planning you can end up wasting a lot of money.

We can talk through various options with you and give you a quote. It is also important to consider the cost of disposing of your old fence and if skips or van hire are required in order to do so.
